This is the start of Kevin's favorite season - the season when he gets all the fresh, locally grown vegetables he can use. These beets pictured here - and their tops, which I think Kevin was more excited about than their roots! - were delivered by Arnold Farms, a large truck farm out on 544. Margaret told us that they were pulled just that morning, and they looked it. She also brought us some really exceptional Boston lettuce, which went on the specials menu last night as a salad with Marvesta Shrimp and some sort of creamy, crunchy horseradish dressing. (I took pictures of that plate, the strawberry shortcake, and the CrabSteak...but they all came out blurry, so I'll have to try again.) We got a delivery from Annapolis Produce as well this week, and when Kevin saw the soggy, wilted mixed greens and the torn up, slimy old spinach from who knows where, he sent it all back. Luckily, he didn't need it, not when he can provide our customers with produce that comes from right around the corner, picked that day, served that night. Summertime...the vegetables come easy!
