The "pond" behind the restaurant, while looking a little green as the summer progresses, remains an amazing magnet for wildlife. We haven't seen any snakes or turtles lately - how could we? - but this morning a
green heron was perched on the bank hoping he'd spot something tasty. On Sunday - while we were here busy making cherry jam - a young white-tail buck was reported sauntering across the parking lot, headed into the brush and the real pond behind us I suppose. When we arrive each morning, the first thing we do is scan the green water - we've seen mallards and frogs, blue heron and even a
river otter swimming through, probably hastily trying to get to the fresher water on the other side of the hillock!
