Its coming on Christmas
They're cutting down trees
They're putting up reindeer
And singing songs of joy and peace
I don't know about you, but somehow this year Christmas week is trying to just sneak up on us, without any warning. We've got the restaurant decorated, to a certain extent - Christmas balls in fishbowls, bows on the Geese, lights on the desk and on the horns, and the tree is up on the deck, strung with a few lights itself. Today I'm putting some greenery around, to honor that ancient tradition of bringing the symbols of everlasting life into the winter abode. The poinsettias perched around the dining room are also remnants of Christian symbolism, from it's star shaped leaves to the blood red "blossom" that makes it such a Christmas necessity. We do these things every year, rarely stopping to wonder why. Knowing that using live plants and greens to decorate the home during the Christmas season has roots with our ancestors makes that tradition all the more important.
Carry on! How about some smoking bishop after we hang the garlands, eh?
