Waitrose FOOD Illustrated

Jan brought us a copy of a very interesting British food magazine, Waitrose Food Illustrated. Apparently "Waitrose" is the "Whole Paycheck" of Great Britain? Check out the online version - to me the most interesting part is the writing/language itself. It's a lot of fun to read about "dinky" restaurants in the December issue, where "dinky" means small, but in a positive way. And of course we all know that "puddings" refer to desserts, but we don't say "Leave space for the puds, especially the Santiago tart" do we now? And I loved the end piece - which I guess is an interview each month - where Michael Parkinson is being questioned about someone he is "big mates" with, and he replies that the guy had "nicked" his local pub. What does that mean???

There are some beautiful photos and artwork - look at this page regarding seasonal products in Britain. It's wonderful. The British food scene is exploding with the same buzz words we hear within our own circle. Sustainable, organic, local -it's a global thing. Anyway, take a look; if nothing else, it's a way to visit England without flying! And they deliver!
