We are one of the "lucky" million having our business credit card account closed by Advanta. Our BaKe Inc card will be good for 8 days after the May 22nd date on the letter we received from Advanta yesterday - this means 4 more days to use our business credit card. Sure, like all good Americans, Kevin and I have several cards each - two joint cards and a personal card (or two?) apiece. (Kevin likes his new Juniper Card, which earns him free iTune downloads.) But we also each have (had) an Advanta business card that we use regularly for business purchases, from emergency milk at the local grocery to on-line payments for restaurant supplies to booking hotels for food shows. And try getting a new business card in the current environment - after narrowing down the few choices available to us, we decided to open a business account with Discover. The WebSite says approval from your application within 60 seconds, the submit page says 5 to 7 days, and the email confirmation says 30 days...
We don't really need a business card; we could just use a personal account. But we like having BaKe Inc on the face of the card! ha ha. Until we figure out a new business credit account, we'll just have to keep track of business expenses on our personal cards and hope Kevin keeps all of his receipts! Meanwhile, we will bear in mind that using business cards, reward cards, any card that seems "free" and pays "dividends", these cards charge the business more money to process the payment, with a higher rate. (Hence the no free lunch thing.) We'll see how this credit card reform continues to play out; a more level playing field wouldn't be a bad thing but I hope we can get a new business card in the meantime.
