UpDate

Some of you have asked how the issues from last week were resolved, from the staffing complications to the new credit card processor. Staffing wise, things got a little better and a little worse. LaVonte had to call out on Saturday, for family reasons, but we were able to find a sub for him for both (!of all days for him to work a double!) shifts... Bussing wise, Ashley very kindly volunteered her sister Natalie to work Saturday night, which was a major help to James. Also Saturday night we got another reprieve in that Joy came home early from her weekend away and called to see if we needed her to come to work that night. Did we ever! She ran trays, the two newbie bussers ran ragged, and we had one of our busiest nights of the summer. The ice machine even held out! We have 2.5 new hires possibly coming on board, so our bus staff should be up to speed within a week. Whew! Doesn't mean we don't miss Lacee and Emily though!

Credit card processing - the new software is in place, but it needs some tweaking. Last night when we transferred a check from the bar to a table, the bar seat on the screen disappeared! When we joined two tables together, the first table disappeared from view on the screen! Yikes! This could be a big problem, especially on a weekend night when we transfer checks and join tables right and left. This will be an issue for DBS to solve. Pronto.

The photo up above is the "bouquet" we had decorating our kitchen table: a huge basil plant from Joy's garden. It was the perfect arrangement for our summer kitchen.

In other news, we are just about sold out of the week's supply of soft shells. We served them on a corn and cantaloupe salad at lunch, and on that delicious Thai roasted eggplant for dinner. On the other hand, the Spanish mackerel which we offered last weekend, was not as popular. Those who had it loved it, but not too many people wanted to try it. Unusual to not run out of the limited number of orders we had. Oh well, live and learn. I'm looking forward to trying the fish cake that Kevin makes from it myself.

And finally, we had the "pleasure" of being in what had to be the world's noisiest restaurant in Bethany on Sunday night. I know that sometimes our DR gets a little boisterous, but this was simply incredible. We literally had to shout across the table at one another, the whole time, in order to converse. I don't know it this is a normal situation for this busy place, but if we hadn't been with friends, we would have turned around and left. Life is stressful enough as it is without adding a din to it.
