We had been "warned" - via the Brampton, where she was staying - that Barbara Fairchild, editor-in-chief of Bon Appetit Magazine, might be planning to visit Brooks Tavern sometime during Labor Day Week, but only in a vague, general way. When Michael called to say she had been in on Labor Day Saturday night, there was a uniform "oh no" from everyone who heard...that being a classic night from hell, as documented earlier in this blog. However, as she states above, if they were here on Friday night, while busy, that might not have been so bad, service wise. Anyway, the package from DHL that arrived this morning contained this very generous note and the two copies of Bon Appetit for the foyer. If she had experienced an "oh no" kind of night, do you think she would have taken the trouble to pay us such a compliment? I doubt it.
Anyway, really pretty classy that she took the time to jot us that friendly note.

Very cool! Congratulations! I think it's a real compliment to you and your staff that she experienced an "authentic" evening at Brook's Tavern because she was "incognito." Had you known she was coming, would she have had the same experience? I doubt it. Well done!
ReplyDeleteWhat you don't realize is that even your "disaster" nights are, to the uninformed, consistently delightful.
ReplyDeleteWow Barbara, when nights get hectic again, you, Kevin, and the staff can remember that BT can still impress those in the know.--Liz
