It has been pointed out to me that the link I provided to the anti-factory farming video "The Meatrix" could also lead one into the Path of PETA. This I certainly do not want to do. After looking at the video, I dug a little to see if there was a connection, but I couldn't find one. After getting this recent heads up however, I dug a little deeper and the connection seems to be a financial one. A lot of organizations link to the video in support of the general humane raising of food concept, but PETA apparently gave money to the video's producers. You have to really Google pretty deeply to find the proof, but it's there. See question 5. The primary benefactor of the producers seems to be a non-profit organization called GRACE, or Global Action Resource Center for the Environment, which appears to be a heavily endowed social movement organization that Industrial Farming probably loves to hate. The fact is the video has created quite a controversy out in the food world, and while it may not seem to be actively promoting the PETA Way, it has certainly been embraced by those who do. There is an absolutely amazing amount of chatter about it, from academic journals to vegan (or, in the case of this link, "Animal Liberation Front) discussion groups, with no one actually agreeing about the true message of the film.
I know better than to get involved in a political discussion. Don't I??
