Our prix-fixe menu on Wednesday nights, priced to move at $20.10, has been a very popular choice ever since we first started offering it two years ago. It is not unusual to sell out, sometimes as early as 6:30. Not the case last night... The menu featured a duck liver mousse with pomegranate molasses, followed by chicken and turkey stew with chiles and pineapple in a tortilla bowl, with a rhubarb roulade completing the selection. Was it the duck liver? The chiles? The Hawaiian sounding poultry? Who knows, but only two (2!!!) people ordered it. That sets the bar pretty low for a record, but there it is.
Funny thing about this Wednesday menu-thing. It began as a promotion for our first anniversary in May of 2008, and evolved into a popular weekly event. The surprising side effect is the opportunity it has offered Kevin to create new dishes for eventual placement on the regular menu. The p/f menu, with it's "guaranteed" audience, gives him a chance to take some risks and see how it goes.
Well. I guess we know how duck liver mousse and pineapple poultry will go, eh?

Barbara, it wasn't the prixe fixe menu that kept us away Wed....I had a Kent Youth annual meeting which didn't end until 8 p.m...But I gotta say we were a little bit scared of of the menu, and decided, before we knew we weren't going to be able to make it in time, that only one of us would try it. Part of the fun and enjoyment is being Kevin's guinea pigs with s new dish. See ya next week..down with a cold now. Connie G.
