A Birthday Celebration

Eight cooks entered the Brooks Tavern kitchen yesterday morning at 11:30, ready to get their hands dirty and cook their own lunch.  The event was arranged by sisters Anne and Mary, in honor of the birthday of a member of this eclectic group of apron-donning women from the Annapolis area.  We had been planning this celebration since October and it turned out to be quite a fun time for all, including Kevin!

We greeted the ladies with some herb cream cheese and pita toasts,to go with their Gruet Sparkling Rose - hey, we didn't say this was a typical work day in Brooks' kitchen!

They are preparing bread, chicken breasts wrapped in bacon, roasted asparagus and rice cakes.  Panna cotta for dessert was my contribution to the class.

Everyone had a chance to roll their own chicken breast in it's plastic sheath,
in preparation for the poaching bath.

Meanwhile, the sauce on the stove is simmering...

and the bread "needs" constant attention.

Everyone gets a chance to be "on the line".

The first plate is put together to demonstrate how it would be done during service,
the rest is served buffet style.

The birthday girl holds her prize!

And as everyone gets around the table, there's a toast to all the cooks!
