BT Goes to Bridges

We had a great time at lunch at Bridges yesterday.  We didn't get a very good turnout - August Sundays are complicated - but four of the dining room staff made a fun group out on the very pleasant deck at Bridges on Kent Island.  Pictured above: Jen, Tabitha and Emily.

Poor Ashley had to sit between her bosses...she was a good sport about it though!

We had a LOT of food.  We started with two appetizers - the four cheese crab dip and the seafood nachos.  Everyone liked the dip - very crabby and cream cheesy.  The nachos, not so much - some didn't like the peppers and olives on it, and felt the seafood was a little skimpy.  That being said, we ate every bite.  (Tabitha told us that Doc's in Centreville does a great seafood nacho, so we'll have to check that out.)  Next course - a couple bowls of the cream of crab soup and a smoked salmon pizza.  We ordered the shrimp spring rolls at this point also, but they didn't arrive - more about that later.  Emily's comment on the soup was right-on: "It tastes like the dip!"  It did too, and it was way too thick and not nearly hot enough.  Plenty salty as well, but also plenty of lump crab meat.  The smoked salmon pizza was considered a little too "smoked salmon" for our crew, meaning just not to their tastes; it would have been better on a better crust, IMHO.

We ate every bite...

So, the server (poor thing) comes over and asks, once again, are we ready to order our main course.  Kevin says, well, we'd like that order of shrimp spring rolls...and she responds: "Oh crap! I forgot that!" and rushes off to put the order in.  The girls had already commented on the constant reference to our group as "guys" (a big BT no-no), so the semi-cuss word coming out was considered quite rude.

After the spring rolls, which everyone gave a thumbs-up, we finally ordered lunch - although I doubt any of us were very hungry at this point!  Emily had the Bridges Sliders - a mini lamb burger, crab cake and tuna sandwich on one plate.  Ashley went with the Ahi Tuna Sandwich; Jen did the special Soft Shell Crab Sandwich; Tabitha had Mussels; Kevin ordered the Grilled Chicken Sandwich, and I asked for the Tuna Tower, which I had enjoyed so much on our first visit.

Emily's sliders looked really good, and while she commented that the crabcake (far left) was "as big as a quarter", she enjoyed the trio of sandwiches and the fries that came with them.

We felt that Jen's soft shell sandwich was probably the winner of the selections, but my Tuna Tower was also very good and Ashley (who has only been eating fish for maybe a year...) was very happy with her medium tuna sandwich.  She only could manage half though, and our server offered to bring a box for the leftovers...I guess we should have been paying more attention, the plate was whisked away when desserts arrived and by the time the box came to the table, too late.

Desserts.  Everyone - full as we were - wanted dessert.  We got the caramel cheesecake (not nearly as good as Kevin's and a little gummy), the tropical sorbet, made in-house (excellent - tangy and sweet and cold and creamy, everyone's favorite) and the vanilla creme brulee (delicious as well, with  only a little too much sugar crust for some).  We ate every last crumb.

As we sat there groaning we talked a little about the service.  We felt it was fine, if a little "casual". And while it is a casual place, the prices seem to demand a little more professionalism, we agreed.  We had a great time, the deck was the perfect venue for a summer lunch, the girls were wonderful guests and a good time was had by all.  We look forward to our next dining out adventure.
