Staffing Update

It has been an Interesting Week in the kitchen at BT, to say the least.  Let me put it this way: thank goodness that Kevin can do the job of four people...

We hired a fellow to replace Chris on the lunch line, and he started his training last week.  He trained a full week, five shifts, leaving on Saturday to a refrain of "See ya Tuesday!"

You guessed it.  He didn't show.

What the heck is that all about?  Start a new job, stick out the worst few days and then DNS?  And not only does that leave us with no line cook, trained or otherwise, it also leaves us with no one to train a new line cook, since the experienced person has left.  Great.  Thanks buddy.

Back to Craig's List.  A new ad - plus the two older ones - continue to supply us with a number of applicants.  We hired one as prep cook - he started yesterday - and we are in the process of hiring a salad cook, training her today with Angie.  Today we also interviewed a very promising  candidate for the line cook job, who will come back tomorrow to observe and try out.  So it's not all bad news.  And I suppose I should also be grateful - if that is the right way to feel - that we have been through all of this sort of thing before.  It gets a little stressful, but nothing that a sense of humor can't resolve.

Meanwhile, Kevin is enjoying being back on the lunch line and Rodrigo is coming in at noon to work the other end with him.  Angie is a godsend and of course LaVonte - despite his late arrival yesterday which almost did us in with worry - has been steadfast in his duties.  We'll be glad when this turnover in staff is over and everyone is trained and on the right path, but it still is not the worst we've ever been through... And isn't it great to get all of this training and stuff over with all at once?

That's our motto, eh?  Look on the bright side of life.
