StayCation

This past RubyDay we headed out again, looking for a likely swimming hole. We found that and more. We found palm trees. We found a tiki bar. We found a (private) beach full of swimmers and waders. We found bikini clad women carrying creamy drinks and six-packed men carrying coolie held beers. There were also plenty of men who were only drinking six-packs, of course. We found a Caribbean Grill offering dogs and burgers. Sand and sun and rock and roll playing - where the heck were we? South Beach? Ocean City? Coney Island? No man, we were still in the Land of Pleasant Living. We were at JellyFish Joel's! We came down to see our favorite bartender wearing a Hawaiian shirt, making frozen Mudslides and something called Pain in the Ass. Welcome to summer Sundays at Great Oak Marina!

It was a whole new world down there at Great Oak. Back in High School we used to frequent that "slip owners only" beach, before there were docks and boats and JellyFish Joels. Now it's full of people from PA and DE, cooking out on the multiple gas grills, eating and drinking on the sand, sitting in lawn chairs on the edge of the Bay watching the boats - and the bikini clad girls - come and go. We waited around for a bit to get a dog from the grill, but that one man operation was pretty slow going, so we headed up to the Main House and Mangroves Bar and Grill for a snack on the deck. Not a bad place to spend a Sunday afternoon, especially one as lovely as this. It almost made us forget our real world for a bit, something a StayCation doesn't always allow!
