So far anyway. We managed to keep open the path to the car, parked at the end of the driveway as per usual these days of late, and from there we took a ride down Kennedyville road, albeit in my brother's four wheel drive:
This morning Kennedyville Road was much better - the county must have made a pass-through and widened the alley a bit. Up until then it was the neighbors on their tractors, with Horizon leading the pack, keeping the road passable pretty much through out the storm. We are very, very fortunate to have such dedicated and hard-working farmers on our road!
We spent a lot of time outside, digging our paths and just experiencing this incredible event. At one point, during the height of the storm, out in Ruby's pen, you had the feeling you were in a Japanese print... It was simply an indescribably exhilarating experience throughout. This weather has caused so many problems for so many people - and I can only imagine how difficult it must be to have to handle livestock during this week of blizzards - but the unique beauty of it was not to be ignored.
So, what have we been eating for the past two days (besides way too much)? Well, the above bowl depicts our dinner on Wednesday night - a rice stir fry with chorizo, peas and onion, served with a flour tortillas. Being snowed in with a chef and a pretty full pantry is not all bad.Meanwhile, we know that all that digging out cranks up the appetite, so we are getting all set here in the Brooks Tavern kitchen to feed all comers. Everyone is really happy to be back at work, that is for sure!
