Kevin and Doc

Doc Blanchard and his wife, Barbara, were Saturday night regulars on Table 41 for years and years at the Ironstone Cafe. They were the first to introduce me to zinfandel, the Lytton Springs vineyard in particular, which eventually became a part of the Ridge winery, my favorite zin producer of all. While his wife prefers to remain at home in NY, Doc likes to come down to their place in Rock Hall on the weekends, putter around in the yard and come in to have dinner with us. He might enjoy a little red wine, a nice piece of fish, maybe an oyster fritter. Now and then I talk him into dessert. In many ways he seems like our "Dad" - a loyal supporter, who has watched us evolve and grow over these 24 years of restaurant life. We look forward to his visits and his usual stop into the kitchen to greet the cook.
