Seafood Head's Up

And by "head's up", I mean it both ways. Here is a head's up to let you know that seafood prices will certainly be heading up as the oil slick in the Gulf of Mexican drifts into the marshes off the Louisiana and Florida coasts. Frank has told us that generally this time of year, we are getting crabs from Texas and Louisiana; this year we are sending crabs to Texas and Louisiana. Shrimp is possibly another casualty of insufficient supply to meet demand. None of the news coming out of the Gulf is good, and the damage to the ecosystem that supplies 10% of the nation's seafood is only the tip of the iceberg. We - like the residents of that fragile area - are keeping our fingers crossed that something will work to stave off disaster.

Meanwhile, maybe this will be the year of the catfish...farm raised that is!
